about

This album is for the place that made me and partially raised me. Uruguay, specifically Montevideo, has always been seen as a beacon of stability and prosperity on a continent where those two words generally seem impossible.

But as with most things Latin America, that story isn't and hasn't always been a happy one. My goal with this project was to find a middle ground between revolution and prosperity. Unemployment and migration. Thinking and acting.

COVID wholly ruined my plans of traveling to Uruguay in 2020/2021. In that frustration, this project came about, and really-- it's been a way of reminding me of the places, people, and stories I've long since associated with Montevideo. Adding Pepe Mujica's voice (former Uruguayan president and political prisoner) to some songs encapsulates what it means to be from Uruguay-- forward-thinking, collectively minded and worried about the uncertainties of the future. His interview in 'Human' (which you can find on Youtube with captions) reinforced my views on the world, and ultimately, how I see myself-- burdened but able to move beyond.

I hope you enjoy this project as much as I did, making it.
